Find information on how to fund your citizen science project. Here we present the Flemish, Belgian, European and other funding opportunities available in support of citizen science.
At the moment there are no active calls. When a new call is launched you will find all information on this page.
Projects funded in previous calls can be found here.
Information on the previous call:
Project applications are filled out by researchers at universities, colleges and research facilities, and preferably in collaboration with actors in the domain of STEM policy and science communication policy.
The main goal behind the funding of these projects is the promotion of participation by citizens in scientific research, regardless of gender, age, race, education level, etc.
Through these projects, citizens are encouraged to take part in the generation of research results and insights based on their own expertise, curiosity and willingness to participate, and to do so without breaking the academic integrity of the research project itself.
Horizon Europe is the EU research and innovation program for the 2021-2027 period. It focuses on 5 main missions. The new work program for 2021-2022 is soon to be launched. The expectation is that several calls with a citizen science approach will be made in the course of the work program.
Furthermore, Citizen Science may also be used as a research method in other calls under the European funding programs.
Besides taking advantage of funding opportunities earmarked for citizen science, you can implement citizen science as a research method in your project application through 'regular' funding channels such as FWO (Research Foundation - Flanders), VLAIO (Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship) and BELSPO (Belgian Science Policy Office).
