Second series of funded citizen science projects - 2018

In May 2018, seven citizen science projects were approved and are now in full development. In November 2018, a budget was provided for six additional projects from the same call. More information about these projects (what they do, how you can participate ...) can be found here.

veiligheid

1. ¿Citizentalk!

People are by nature experts in spoken communication. Citizentalk! wants to use this human talent to teach machines such skills as well.

2. My Gardenlab

In this project, citizens make their garden available for data collection. In addition to traditional counts, the possibility is also provided to investigate the quality of the soil.

3. HASSELair

The project wants to realize a (near) real-time data visualization of the air pollution in the city of Hasselt and deliver a publicly available database of the associated measurements. Low-cost air quality sensors are used for this.

4. Green Pioneers

Humans are naturally curious about discovering new plants in their environment, but are often unaware of the damage non-native plants are doing to our native biodiversity. This project aims to stimulate this awareness and demonstrate how to prevent accidental introductions of harmful plants.

5. MamaMito

The project aims to encourage the general public to draw up their maternal lineage (instead of just their paternal line), to expand them and make them available for scientific research. This provides a unique and qualitative database with new data for historical demographic research.

6. A bike-STEM(voice) for schools!

The project aims to map the bicycle safety and friendliness of school environments. It appeals to secondary school students. The final product is a bicycle safety barometer from the school in question.
