New project "Buren Meten Hoogspanningslijnen" is launching.
Do you live less than 100 meters from a high-voltage power line? Then you may be eligible to take part in this new project. Commissioned by the Flemish Department of Environment, and in collaboration with the imec-UGent research group WAVES, we are launching the new citizen science project Buren Meten Hoogspanningslijnen (‘Citizens measure high-voltage power lines’).
In this project, citizens can place a sensor in their home to measure the magnetic fields caused by the high-voltage power line for one week. In the first phase of the project, we will carry out three campaigns in different neighbourhoods: two in Leuven (Wilsele area and Kessel-Lo area) and one in Ghent (Wondelgem area). In each neighbourhood, we will organise an information session to kick off the campaign. People from these municipalities and neighbouring municipalities are welcome to join. Please note that the information sessions will be mainly in Dutch. The information sessions will take place at the following times:
- Wednesday, 2 September at 8:00 PM: Wilsele (Leuven) – GC De Bosstraat
- Wednesday, 14 October at 8:00 PM: Kessel-Lo (Leuven) – Basisschool Boven-Lo
Friday, 27 November at 8:00 PM: Wondelgem (Gent) – De Zulle
Do you qualify to participate in one of these regions? Then sign up now! You can also participate if you are unable to attend one of the information sessions. In that case, please also register using the form below. If you live near a high-voltage power line but not in these specific regions, you can still register for the waiting list. We will take this into account when planning future campaigns.
