HASSELair

The HASSELair project is realising a (near) realtime data visualisation of the air pollution in and around Hasselt. Citizens learn how to build an air quality sensor and to interpret the results.

Hasselair

Air quality is a current problem. Because the official measuring stations are so expensive, there are only 112 in Belgium, only 2 of which in the province of Limburg. There are several citizen science projects that measure air quality, but their main focus is either cumulative measuring, or they are located in the region between Brussels and Leuven. Before the project, there were no real time measurements in the region around Hasselt.

In this project, the inhabitants of Hasselt build their own air quality sensors, and measure the quality on a fixed location at their house, or with mobile sensors that measure their environment when the volunteer is on the move.
