Five years of the guide 'Communication in citizen science'
On 18 November 2019, Scivil published the communication guide 'Communication in Citizen Science'. Five years later, the guide continues to demonstrate its value as the ultimate resource for anyone aiming to set up a citizen science project and develop a strong communication plan. It provides a clear structure for creating a communication strategy and practical tips for implementing it effectively. With a specially designed template, the guide remains a vital tool for both beginners and experienced project leaders in delivering successful citizen science projects.
The guide was created in collaboration with the Scivil working group on communication and participation. The authors - Annelies Duerinckx (coordinator of Scivil), Carina Veeckman and Sarah Talboom (researchers at SMIT-VUB), Liesbeth Gijsel (editor at EOS and coordinator of Iedereen Wetenschapper), and Hilde Devoghel (editor, moderator, and communication specialist at Tales and Talks) - combined their expertise to create an accessible and practical guide.
Even five years on, the theme of 'communication in citizen science' remains highly relevant. The guide, particularly the template with its step-by-step plan, continues to meet a growing demand from the field. Scivil receives numerous inquiries about communication in citizen science each year, including during advisory sessions. The guide is also frequently downloaded, highlighting its ongoing recognition both in Belgium and internationally.
