Meise Botanic Garden and the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO) developed the PlantAlert web app as part of the European OneSTOP project, enabling citizens to help detect invasive plants at an early stage.
Some garden plants can spread beyond gardens and threaten biodiversity. Through PlantAlert, gardeners can report plants that spread rapidly or are difficult to control. These observations are collected in an open database that supports researchers, nature managers and policymakers in the early detection of potentially invasive species. In this way, citizens can contribute to both scientific research and biodiversity protection with a simple observation from their own garden.
