Launch of first campaign "Buren Meten: Hoogspanningslijnen"

Hoogspanningslijnen

On Wednesday, 2 September, we officially launched the first measurement campaign of our new project ‘Buren Meten: Hoogspanningslijnen’ (Neighbours Measure: High-Voltage Power Lines). In this citizen science project, commissioned by the Flemish Department of Environment, participants place a sensor in their homes for one week to measure the magnetic fields generated by a nearby high-voltage power line. After a week of measurements, participants pass the sensor on to a neighbour. Over the coming weeks, 10 participants in Wilsele (Leuven) will take part in the campaign. Four sensors have been distributed and will be passed from neighbour to neighbour throughout the project.

Following this first campaign, two additional measurement campaigns are planned in other neighbourhoods later this year: Boven-Lo (Leuven) and Wondelgem (Ghent). With each campaign, a larger number of sensors will be available, allowing us to involve even more participants.

Both the neighbours and our team are looking forward to seeing the first measurement results!

Do you live within 100 metres of a high-voltage power line in Flanders and are you interested in participating in this pilot project?
You can find all the information on the website of the Flemish Government (in Dutch).
