Scivil turns two

Scivil was born two years ago. For our first birthday in 2020, we launched our new and improved website. Now we've also added a full English translation to Scivil.be. In this post, we'll be looking back on what we accomplished and what our plans are for 2021.

Verjaardagstaart

We analysed the 53 citizen science project proposals that were submitted during the 2019 funding call by the Flemish Gorvernment.

We gave 16 workshops and inspirational sessions on citizen science in Flanders and in Europe.

At the end of 2019, the Flemish Government financed seven new citizen science projects. That makes a total of 20 projects funded.

We started a process to determine our vision and goals for the future, involving 44 stakeholders from all corners of society.

We organised 7 focus groups about the needs for citizen science initiatieves in Flanders.

We were consulted most often with questions regarding the best approaches to citizen science, funding for projects, privacy, GDPR and project valorisation.

And so much more!

In 2021, we'll be working on...

Publishing the results of the hard work by our citizen science data working group.

Writing guidelines for local governments on how to support and implement citizen science.

An ambitous citizen science project on using AI to solve societal issues together with the Knowledge Centre for Data and AI.

Supporting the STEM and citizen science project 'Weg Van't School' improving bycicle safety on the way to school.

Getting back with what we learned from our 2020 surveys of citizen scientists and academics on their experiences in citizen science.
